About

Welcome — At Cultifree

We believe in the power of epigenetic principles to develop robust seeds, capable of thriving in free and wild environments.

By prioritizing biodiversity, we develop

Natural reinforcement of ancestral tomato varieties ,

Improving their resistance to natural challenges ,

The richness and sustainability of our ecosystems .

Our philosophy

We take a pure natural selection approach to guide the evolution of our crops. Here's how we do it:
Adaptation to natural conditions

We let plants adapt and survive in varied and uncontrolled environments.

Strengthening natural resilience

This method allows plants to develop increased resilience, without human intervention such as mechanical watering.

Creation of raw seeds

Our seeds are exclusive and raw, offering each gardener the opportunity to develop unique genetics.

Our beginnings

In 2017 , Jean-François Craye, fascinated by Pascal Poot's methods, began a unique experiment in his garden. Inspired by the idea of letting tomatoes grow naturally, he decided to observe rather than intervene.

For hours, Jean-François observed his wild vegetable garden, noting every change. He noticed that the plants adapted to their environment on their own, becoming more resilient over time.
This approach, based on epigenetics - the idea that plants can pass on acquired characteristics to their descendants - became the heart of his project.
In 2022 , based on his observations, Jean-François created Wild and Free Tomato Seeds.

1000 tomato plants grown from seeds from Pascal Poot.

42 distinct varieties developed on two types of soil — sandy and clayey

Cultivation techniques : Natural selection. Quebec, Canada.

In 2024 , his passion became Cultifree , pushing the idea of free and natural cultivation even further. Cultifree continues to take advantage of the most resistant and adaptable tomato varieties, letting nature do its work.
From 2017 to 2024, Jean-François' project went from simple experiments to an innovative company, always faithful to the original idea: letting plants adapt naturally autonomously to benefit from more resistant varieties that are better adapted to their environment.

Our heirloom tomato seeds are distinguished by

Rich history, adaptability and exceptional flavor.
  • It is impossible to definitively conclude on Cultifree’s approach to tomato seeds, as the method is based on an ongoing, evolutionary process. Cultifree’s “grow free or die” philosophy embodies the idea that tomato adaptation is a never-ending journey, with each generation opening a new chapter of evolution. Gardeners using these seeds engage in a perpetual adventure of learning and discovery, where each season reveals new surprises and adaptations.
  • With Cultifree, each seed planted is the beginning of a never-ending story, rich in resilience and natural diversity. In addition, the pleasure of planting these seeds or offering them to friends and family adds a joyful dimension to this experience. Each tomato grown becomes not only a living testimony of this process of evolution, but also a source of sharing and conviviality, celebrating the beauty of nature and the bond between gardeners.
